Mammogram

Breast Cancer Screening in Virginia & West Virginia

For the safety of patients who could not or should not delay care further, Valley Heath began expanding access to elective outpatient diagnostic testing on Monday, May 4. Elective screening services, including screening mammograms and bone density exams (DEXA), are resuming at Winchester Medical Center’s Diagnostic Center beginning on Monday, June 1, and at other Valley Health hospitals starting in mid-June. Visit valleyhealthlink.com/electiveservices for more information and contact numbers for questions.

A mammogram is a type of x-ray used on the breasts to detect signs of breast cancer. Screening mammography is the first line of defense against this disease, and it is recommended that all women schedule a mammogram once a year when they turn 40. Your doctor may recommend an exam sooner than this if you have above average risk factors, such as cases of breast cancer in your family history.

  • Screening mammograms are a fully covered benefit with most insurance plans. Check your coverage!
  • No insurance? $99 self-pay fee available, details are listed below

In addition to digital mammography, we also offer state-of-the-art 3D mammograms. 3D mammograms are recommended for women with dense breast tissue, as it is harder to detect abnormalities from 2D scans in these cases.

We offer:

  • Year-over-year mammogram comparisons
  • The latest technology in breast cancer screening
  • A dedicated Breast Center

$99 Mammograms for Uninsured Patients

Mammograms are an integral part of every woman’s health and wellness. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer for women in America. Roughly one in eight women will develop it at some point in their lives. Early detection is key to treating breast cancer, which is why mammograms and monthly self-breast exams are so important.

Not all insurance plans will carry coverage for breast exams. For these patients, all Valley Health hospital locations offer reduced-rate mammograms. Regular mammograms will be available for uninsured patients for a reduced fee of $99. Uninsured patients also have the option to add 3D images for the additional fee of $95.
