Cancer Care in the Shenandoah Valley

Encouraging Hope, Healing & Health

The Valley Health Cancer Center at Winchester Medical Center is home to our nationally accredited cancer program that offers advanced technology, a team approach to treatment, and support for patients and their families. Each cancer diagnosis is as unique as the patient facing this new challenge. We treat the whole person: physical, emotional, and spiritual. The Cancer Center brings these elements together in a welcoming destination for cancer care.

Caring for more than 1,300 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year, we are committed to providing the best care possible with the most current technology supporting the expertise of our team of oncology physicians and other cancer care professionals.

Our services include:

Accredited Oncology Care

The Valley Health Cancer Center has earned accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons. As a CoC-accredited facility, our center takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary partnership results in improved patient care.

Our center has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer since 2021, when we were the first in the tri-state region to earn this accreditation. Click here to learn more.

Our facility has been accredited by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) through APEx - Accreditation Program for Excellence®. APEx is an accreditation program developed by ASTRO that validates a radiation oncology facility’s excellence in delivering high-quality patient care.

Our comprehensive breast care program has been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers since 2009.

Opened in August 2016, the Cancer Center features treatment and clinic spaces for radiation oncology, medical oncology/hematology, and surgical oncology, an infusion center space overlooking a beautiful lake and healing garden, the Valley Health Breast Center, a dedicated space for meditation, and easy access to the Diagnostic Center for imaging and laboratory services.

Technologies to support patient care include two Varian TrueBeam™ Linear Accelerators, an enhanced radiation treatment planning system, and an oncology-specific electronic medical record system to better manage the patient’s journey from initial diagnosis through post-treatment follow-up.
