Care for the Caregiver

Now Live! Call 540-536-CARE.

Have you ever wondered if you faced a traumatic event at work, would Valley Health provide you with appropriate support afterwards? The answer is, YES! Absolutely!

Like anything else that you do to serve others, working in healthcare can be emotionally draining. Valley Health has a variety of resources such as EAP and local morale and wellness committees to help address the long term stress and strain. However, traumatic events bring a whole new need – a need for immediate emotional support even to get through the next few days.

Have you or someone you know been involved in a traumatic event at work? Valley Health is committed to supporting your emotional recovery. The “Care for the Caregiver” team is trained peer supporters who provide an empathetic listening ear, provide low level psychological intervention, identify colleagues who may be at risk to themselves or others, and facilitate pathways to additional help as needed. Whether it is for a group or just one person, this support is here for you.

When you see a need, call the triage line at 540-536-CARE.

The triage person will assess the need and work to schedule either a “defusing” – short, same day, or a “debriefing” – more in depth, 1-3 days after the event. The team may also hear of needs from other sources and reach out to those teams to offer support.

The entire process is voluntary and confidential, with more details available in PolicyStat.
