About

M. Cathleen McCoy, MD joined the Winchester Medical Center staff in 1995. She was welcomed to town by the visionary physicians of Winchester OB/GYN as the only maternal fetal medicine specialist in the region. As medicine and women have evolved so has her specialty. Women with all kinds of diseases once thought to preclude a healthy pregnancy are now braving the odds to share life's greatest joy.

After a childhood in Switzerland and Hong Kong she attended the University of Michigan. Dr McCoy graduated from Ohio State University of College of Medicine in 1986. She completed her residency as chief resident and a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at Duke University in Durham NC. She then was so bold as to join the OB/GYN faculty at University of North Carolina, the football and basketball rival of Duke.

She has delivered thousands of babies and can still shed a tear of joy for the good fortune she shares. In January of 2013 she left Winchester OBGYN to start Shenandoah Valley Maternal Fetal Medicine (SVMFM). Prenatal diagnosis with ultrasound is the pivotal tool of their day but they dream of a time where every woman is prepared for pregnancy with exercise, optimal nutrition, stabilized disease processes and optimal life situations. She is skilled in CVS and amniocentesis, both invasive genetic tests, as well as counseling about the choices available given a family's unique needs. She performs fetal echocardiography and has cared for thousands of pregnant women with diabetes. Multiple pregnancies often require her specialist skills due to placental connections. She is board certified in Both OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine.
