Gerald J. Bechamps, MD, is Vice-President for Medical Affairs for Hampshire Memorial Hospital
and War Memorial Hospital. Dr. Bechamps brings extensive experience as
a respected general surgeon and physician leader, with expertise in cancer,
quality care, credentialing, ethics and the intricacies of the health
care delivery system to the benefit of Valley Health’s hospitals
and their patients in West Virginia.
A board certified general surgeon in Winchester for forty years, Dr. Bechamps
was active in medical staff leadership at Winchester Medical Center (WMC)
and has served on the WMC Board of Trustees and the WMC Foundation Board.
He has also served as president of the Federation of State Medical Boards,
the Virginia Board of Medicine, the Virginia Surgical Society and the
Virginia chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He has served on
the Virginia Tumor Registry and currently volunteers as a surveyor for
the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. Dr.
Bechamps graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine, interned
at Nassau County General Hospital in East Meadow, NY, and completed a
