Family Connections: The Millers

Meet the Miller family! Stephen and Abby Miller work in Winchester Rehab and Home Health, respectively. Read their story in this week's Family Connections.

What do you like about working with your wife? I enjoy when a patient is discharged from Winchester Rehab Center under my wife’s care who then gets admitted to Home Health in my territory. My wife is an incredible physical therapist, so I have immediate credibility with the patient because they received great care from my wife. My wife is also a great resource when I have difficulty progressing a patient. She is able to provide treatment or equipment recommendations that result in better patient outcomes.

Why did you choose Valley Health? I chose VHS because I appreciate the support that comes from a large hospital group. I greatly appreciate the support I have had from management in Home Health. For Valley Health Home Health, I felt that the focus was more on quality of patient care rather than number of visits or metrics that needed to be met.

What do you like about working with your husband? It’s comforting having a partner in the same field who can be empathetic when you have a bad day and really understand the joys of a great day, even if it’s something that may seem trivial to others. We’re also in the unique position of providing another level of continuity of care. Oftentimes, patients are discharged from Winchester Rehab Center, and Stephen or one of his coworkers have them for Home Health. We’ve been able to work together, problem solving how to best help patients.

Why did you choose Valley Health? Growing up in Winchester, Valley Health always had a large presence. When we decided to move back to the area, I knew VHS would help me grow the most as a clinician. I’ve loved my time at Winchester Medical Center and now Winchester Rehab Center.
