About
Michael Avery, DO, is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in colorectal surgery. Dr. Avery went to medical school at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in North Carolina. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Atrium Health at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. His fellowship in colon and rectal surgery was completed at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.
During his training, Dr. Avery developed a strong interest in both colorectal cancer and benign anorectal conditions. He was drawn to the specialty’s unique blend of technical precision, long-term patient care, and its ability to significantly impact quality of life. From complex cancer care to treating common but disruptive conditions like hemorrhoids, fistulas, and incontinence, Dr. Avery values the diversity of care within colorectal surgery.
