Family Connections: The Pullen Family

Family Connections: The Pullen Family
Siblings:
Greg Pullen, Clinical Manager
Meg Mills, RN, WMC NICU
Tory Greely, RN, Cath Holding (Heart and Vascular)
Julianne Pullen, works for EVS in the Operating Room (and soon headed to nursing school)

What do you like about working with your siblings?

Greg Pullen: I love working with my sisters. It has been fun to watch them grow and become experts in their own specialties. Meg, Tori, and I all started as Emergency Department nurses and then moved into different clinical areas; it is really cool to have that common link and to also have unique knowledge that we can share with each other. I am excited for Julianne to get exposure and experience in the hospital setting as she pursues her nursing education.

Julianne Pullen: Working with family is great because you know that you’re near people that will always help you if you need it.

Margaret Mills: It is really a lot of fun to work with so many of my siblings. We run into each other throughout the day and get to have lunch every once in a while. I love that we all work at the same place, but our jobs are all very different. The variety in our work really makes for great conversations between us.

Why did you choose VHS?

Greg Pullen: I chose to work at WMC because it is the hospital that serves my community, and because I had great experiences here as a consumer before I had great experiences here as a caregiver. I am a believer in our mission of serving our community by improving health, and now in a leadership position I am privileged to be able to advance that mission through the amazing work my teams do every day!
My younger brother, Sam Pullen, also was a contractor here with Clinical Engineering but has left for another opportunity. Our mom was an RN in the ICU until she retired in 1995.

Julianne Pullen: I chose VHS because of my family and future career goals. Greg, Meg, Tori, and my mom were all nurses at Valley Health, so it seems like the perfect place to work to pay for college while I'm earning my degree.

Margaret Mills: I chose VHS for the NICU at Winchester Medical Center. I was fortunate enough to precept in the NICU as a nursing student 11 years ago. I absolutely fell in love with the unit and the teamwork and dedication that I saw displayed by all of the staff. After graduation, I worked for a year at Sentara RMH in the emergency department, which was a great job, but I always knew I wanted to be at WMC in the NICU. I have now been in the NICU for nine years and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. Our unit delivers such compassionate, quality and lifesaving care to the tiniest little humans and I know that the impact we have on these babies and families will last a lifetime. The hospital as a whole is such a big part of our community and I am proud of this organization.
