About
Dr. Call is the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director of the Internal Medicine Training Program at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA, a program she is proud to be building to serve the Shenandoah Valley community.
Dr. Call has been involved in the direction of residency programs for over 25 years, most recently developing a new program, Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, NC, which is proud to have retained over 75% of its graduates to serve in Western North Carolina. Prior to that, Dr. Call served 16 years as PD at VCU and as the Associate Chair for Education at VCU in Richmond, VA. Dr. Call is a trained facilitator in the Stanford Clinical Teaching Framework and has significant expertise in faculty development in clinical teaching and assessment. She is also trained in several innovative teaching methods and has led studies in enhancing learner engagement at both the GME and UME levels.
She speaks nationally and internationally on milestones, education updates, evaluation and feedback, innovative curriculum design, work-life integration and wellbeing, resilience and reflection. She served on both the Council and the Survey Committee of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine and was part of the writing panel for the AAMC Core Entrustable Professional Activities for Entering Residency and ACGME Milestones 2.0. Most recently, she works with the ACGME as a facilitator for the ACGME Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment Course and as a trained facilitator for the ACGME-based Parker Palmer Courage and Renewal Retreat. She is currently training as an executive coach and a Courage and Renewal facilitator.
Her experience in teaching has been recognized both at the local and national level; she has received numerous teaching awards in the course of her career, including the ACGME Parker Palmer Courage to Teach award, the APDIM Distinguished Educator Award and the VCU Distinguished Teaching Award. She has also been recognized by Working Mothers Magazine Working Mother of the Year Award. In her spare time, Dr. Call can be found hiking across Appalachia and the desert Southwest or on a river (favorite – the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon).
