Frederic "Fred" A. Rawlins, III, DO

About

Frederic "Fred" A. Rawlins, III, DO, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained in internal medicine, pulmonology and critical care medicine. Dr. Rawlins cares for critically ill patients as an intensivist at Winchester Medical Center and educates the next generation of physicians as the associate program director for the internal medicine residency.

Dr. Rawlins obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, and his doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg. He completed his Internal Medicine residency, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Rawlins is a veteran, having served 11 years active duty in the United States Air Force. Attaining the rank of major, earning the meritorious service and aerial achievement medals. During his time in the Air Force he was selected as a critical care air transport team physician, transporting critically ill patients in war time operations. He deployed in 2017 in support of Operations Inherent Resolve and Freedom Sentinel in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dr. Rawlins has a passion for education. He has served as residency core faculty at the Keesler AFB Internal Medicine residency, Co-Chair of Internal Medicine at Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Virginia campus, and Director of Site Medical Education at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, Virginia. Dr. Rawlins has publications on asthma and post deployment dyspnea, including burn pit exposure, in the military.
