In response to the growing demand for emergency medical professionals in our region, Valley Health is proud to announce a new partnership with Blue Ridge Community and Technical College (BRCTC) to launch a satellite paramedic training program at Valley Medical Transport (VMT) in Winchester, Virginia.
This initiative is part of Valley Health’s ongoing commitment to improving access to healthcare education and strengthening the emergency medical workforce in the Northern Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas.
Meeting the region’s need for more paramedics
Communities across the region are experiencing a shortage of trained paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). This new program helps meet that need by offering a high-quality, flexible training option close to home. The 11-month program begins October 20, 2025, and includes in-person classes, online learning, and hands-on clinical experience.
“Paramedics are vital to our healthcare system,” said Craig Barrett, Senior Director, Mobile Integrated Healthcare at Valley Medical Transport, “This program not only helps us grow our own workforce, but also opens doors for others in the community who want to serve in this critical role.”
Valley Health pays full tuition for qualified students
Valley Health will fully cover the cost of the program, a value of $8,500, for eligible employees. With EMT positions currently open, interested individuals can apply to join Valley Health and begin paramedic training at the same time. This investment eliminates financial barriers and strengthens our workforce.
Flexible schedule and hands-on training prepare students for success
The program is designed with working professionals in mind. Students attend in-person classes every Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while completing weekly online lectures and assignments at their own pace. Clinical rotations are scheduled independently, allowing students to tailor their training around work and family responsibilities.
Participants will complete more than 360 hours of clinical experience in diverse settings—including emergency rooms, pediatric care, labor and delivery, cardiac cath labs, and field internships—ensuring they graduate with the real-world skills needed to succeed in high-pressure environments.
This program also serves as a clear career pathway for certified EMTs looking to advance into paramedic roles. For those not yet certified, Valley Health offers EMT training programs that can serve as a first step toward this opportunity.
Limited Spots Available
A minimum of 8 and maximum of 12 spots are available in this inaugural cohort. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early and begin gathering the necessary documentation, including EMT certification, immunization records, and required training credentials.
