Annual Physicals & Wellness Visits: Important For All Ages

No matter your age, it’s important to get an annual health screening. This will help you stay updated on your medical information, build a relationship with your provider, and get proactive, personalized health advice.

Sports physicals

If your student is interested in playing a sport, it’s a good idea to make sure they’re prepared for the physical demands the activity could bring. The best way to ensure this through a sports physical.

While there may be some variation in each evaluation based on specific sport or school requirements and gender, most sports physicals will evaluate:

  • Height and weight
  • Blood pressure and pulse
  • Vision
  • Flexibility
  • Joints
  • For girls, menstrual periods.

Your child’s provider may also ask questions about mental health, drug or alcohol use, and medications.

How can I prepare for my or my child’s sports physical?

Make sure your child is aware of or can bring the following items:

  • Allergies
  • Previous hospitalizations and surgeries
  • Updated list of medications

Regular exams are important for adults, too!

It’s important for adults to be proactive with their health as well. Annual wellness visits are a great chance to check in with your provider. During these visits, your provider will most likely:

  • Check your blood pressure
  • Perform a lymph node exam
  • Listen to your heart and lungs
  • Screen for cancer, heart disease and diabetes, depending on your health history.
