Cardiovascular Sonography Program

Valley Health’s Cardiovascular Sonography Program is a one-year program granting an advanced certificate in sonography (cardiac or vascular). If you’re looking for a meaningful career in the healthcare field, consider training to become a sonographer specializing in imaging of the heart or blood vessels.

The program’s academic coursework is 100% online in collaboration with Washburn University’s accredited sonography curriculum. All clinical instruction and training are based at Valley Health Winchester Medical Center. The program is three semesters in length, starting in the fall, and includes 24 hours per week of onsite clinical instruction.

Upon graduation, students earn an advanced certificate in their chosen track of cardiac or vascular sonography and are eligible to sit for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) board examinations. Students can continue with some additional courses to receive an Associate’s Degree, with an option to continue their education further to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in medical imaging.

The successful student in the Cardiovascular Sonography Program will be a dedicated learner with good interpersonal and communication skills, eye-hand coordination, and physical strength.

Prerequisites

Program applicants must have completed one course in the following categories at the post-secondary/college level with a grade of C or higher:

• Communication (English, Composition or Speech)
• Human Anatomy (if combined with Human Physiology, Human A&P I and II must be taken)
• Mathematics (Intermediate Algebra, Algebra, Statistics or Trigonometry)
• Physics (General Physics, no lab required, or Radiographic Physics, if enrolled in or a graduate of a Radiologic Technology program)
• Medical Terminology

Applications for the 2024/25 CV Sonography Program are no longer being accepted. We will begin accepting applications for the 2025/26 program in December of 2024.
