A non-profit healthcare facility, War Memorial Hospital opened its doors in 2012 and has 25 inpatient beds, 16 long-term care beds, and an eight-bed Emergency Department.

Our state-of-the-art hospital is leading the way in medical services for Morgan County, West Virginia. War Memorial Hospital is a licensed Critical Access Hospital, innovating the way we provide health care to our community. Our 87,000 square-foot facility boasts upgraded technologies throughout. From new operation rooms to a helipad to outpatient rehab, our hospital truly stands out. We even offer ample, convenient parking, keeping the overall patient and visitor experience in mind. Our medical professionals address long-term care, cardiac care, rehabilitation, surgical procedures, diabetes management, and much more. Emergency Services

War Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department is staffed around the clock to provide rapid assessment and a decisive treatment plan. Our team of highly skilled and experienced physicians, nurses, technologists and support staff is dedicated to providing patients with emergent care in a safe and patient-centered environment. Whether it's an injury or sudden illness, our triage nurses quickly assess patients' conditions to identify those who need immediate, life-saving attention thereby ensuring time-appropriate care for all.

Surgical Services

Combining exceptional clinical care with advanced surgical technology, War Memorial Hospital's Surgical Services offers comprehensive and compassionate care for a wide range of procedures, including:

  • Total Joint Replacements—Hip, Knee and Shoulders
  • Other Orthopedic cases—Carpal Tunnel release, Trigger finger release, Knee arthroscopy and more

Heart & Vascular

War Memorial Hospital offers cardiovascular imaging services such as echocardiograms, carotid artery imaging and nuclear stress testing. For more information or questions, call 304-258-6530. To schedule a test, call 855-724-3384. We also work closely with the Clyde A. Smith Heart & Vascular Center at Winchester Medical Center to provide coordinated care for patients who need additional testing or interventions such as cardiac catheterization or surgery. We offer cardiopulmonary rehabilitation , a medically supervised exercise and education program designed to benefit individuals who have a heart condition or lung disease.

Valley Health is committed to making specialist care more accessible in our local communities. We collaborate with highly-experienced cardiologists on our Heart & Vascular team so you can see a specialist closer to home. Valley Health War Memorial Hospital Multispecialty Clinic in Berkeley Springs offers outpatient cardiology services. For more information, call 304-258-6981.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, a medically supervised exercise and education program for those who have a heart condition and/or lung disease, is available at War Memorial Hospital.

The War Memorial Hospital Café is open to employees, patients, visitors and care partners.

Vending machines for drinks and snacks are available 24 hours a day and are located near the Café on the first floor of the hospital.

  • Take U.S. 522 North to Berkeley Springs.
  • At third traffic light, turn right onto Fairfax Street (between BB&T Bank and Morgan County Courthouse).
  • Follow Fairfax Street to the top of the hill and bear to the right.
  • Turn left onto Fairview Drive.
  • Follow Fairview Drive 1.5 miles.
  • Arrive at War Memorial Hospital on the left.
  • From U.S. 522 South (Hancock, MD)

Take U.S. 522 South to Berkeley Springs.

  • At second traffic light, turn left onto Fairfax Street (between Morgan County Courthouse and BB&T Bank).
  • Follow Fairfax Street to the top of the hill and bear to the right.
  • Turn left onto Fairview Drive.
  • Follow Fairview Drive 1.5 miles.

Our History

Early Beginnings

War Memorial Hospital is a licensed Critical Access Hospital with 25 inpatient beds, 16 long-term care beds and a 24/7 Emergency Department. Attracted by the therapeutic properties of the local mineral springs, the hospital started as a treatment center for post-paralysis care in 1934, The Pines Crippled Children’s Hospital. In 1947 Morgan County War Memorial Hospital was organized to serve the residents of Morgan County.

Today

Valley Health has been managing the hospital since 1989, and acquired the hospital in 2010. In 2012, a new facility was opened that included updated general and specialty services, emergency department, cardiac rehabilitation and an outpatient rehabilitation and wellness facility.
