Emergency Services

Having a medical emergency may not be something you think a lot about, but you can rest assured that we do! Our Emergency Department is staffed round-the-clock with board-certified physicians and highly trained nurses, technologists and support staff who provide rapid assessment and a decisive treatment plan. Our team of highly skilled and experienced physicians, nurses, technologists and support staff is dedicated to providing patients with emergent care in a safe and patient-centered environment. Whether it's an injury or sudden illness, our triage nurses quickly assess patients' conditions to identify those who need immediate, life-saving attention thereby ensuring time-appropriate care for all.

Heart & Vascular

Hampshire Memorial Hospital offers cardiovascular imaging services such as echocardiograms, carotid artery imaging and nuclear stress testing. For more information or questions, call 304-822-2166. To schedule a nuclear stress test, call 304-822-4929. We also work closely with the Clyde A. Smith Heart & Vascular Center at Winchester Medical Center to provide coordinated care for patients who need additional testing or interventions such as cardiac catheterization or surgery.

Valley Health is committed to making specialist care more accessible in our local communities. We collaborate with highly-experienced cardiologists on our Heart & Vascular team so you can see a specialist closer to home. Valley Health Hampshire Memorial Hospital Multispecialty Clinic in Romney offers cardiology services.

  • MRI Please note: MRI at this site is on a mobile MRI unit which means you will be escorted by a technologist a few steps outside of the main building to the MRI unit. The mobile unit is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Meals & Snacks

The Sunrise Café is open to employees, patients and care partners/support persons from 7:00 am - 1:30 pm. Vending machines are located outside of the Sunrise Café.

Early Beginnings

The hospital officially opened to the public on February 2, 1959. Over the years they expanded their services and in 2008, it was the first West Virginia hospital to join Valley Health. Through this affiliation, we have strengthened the network of care available to the residents of Hampshire County and surrounding areas to continue to provide high quality, affordable healthcare services close to home.

Addressing a Need

To better serve the community, it was decided that a new hospital was needed. After years of planning and preparation, Valley Health Hampshire Memorial Hospitals opened the doors of its 65,000 square-foot replacement facility on June 4, 2011. In the ensuing years, we've made significant improvements to the hospital's footprint to improve the patient experience through increased privacy and safety along with convenience and efficiencies.

Today

Hampshire Memorial Hospital is a licensed critical access hospital with 14 acute/transitional care beds, 30 long-term care beds and an emergency department in the heart of Romney, West Virginia. Our 30-bed long-term care facility consistently ranks among the top facilities in the state.
