Urgent Behavioral Health Care
The
Valley Health Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing (EmPATH) unit
, located adjacent to the Winchester Medical Center Emergency Department, offers immediate mental health care in a therapeutic environment. This unit is an alternative to the emergency room for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, accepting direct patient walk-ins, to ensure timely and appropriate care in an environment designed to accommodate patients' needs.
Inpatient Behavioral Health Care
Our
inpatient facility
provides comprehensive, acute, short-term assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders with or without co-morbid identified substance abuse. Our programs offer options for adults (18 and up) and seniors (55 and up).

Emergency Services
Level II Trauma Care at Winchester Medical Center
Winchester Medical Center is a state-designated Level II Trauma Center, equipped to provide immediate care for severe and life-threatening injuries. Our trauma team includes board-certified physicians, advanced practice clinicians and highly trained nurses who specialize in emergency and trauma care. The Trauma Bay is staffed around the clock, and every department uses advanced technology to ensure safe, efficient treatment throughout your stay.
When Every Minute Counts
Trauma care is critical when injuries result from serious accidents, such as motor vehicle collisions, falls, sports injuries or recreational accidents. Patients with the most urgent needs are treated first. If your condition changes or you have concerns, speak with a triage nurse right away. Visitor numbers may be limited to maintain space and safety in the emergency department.
Comprehensive Emergency Services
Our emergency team addresses both physical and behavioral health needs. Through the Virginia SBIRT initiative, nurses may ask questions about alcohol use, smoking, depression or other health concerns to connect you with helpful resources. For mental health crises, our EmPATH unit offers immediate care in a therapeutic setting, providing an alternative to the emergency room for patients who need psychiatric support.
