About
William Alexander Lawson Smith, MD, is a board-certified physician specializing in family medicine. Dr. Smith received his Master of Science in Epidemiology from Tulane University, where he contributed to large-scale research on nutritional epidemiology and mental health. He earned his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He completed his residency at the Shenandoah Valley Family Medicine Residency Program in Front Royal, VA, part of Virginia Commonwealth University, where he trained broadly in outpatient medicine, procedures, and point-of-care ultrasound.
Before becoming a physician, Dr. Smith served as an EMT — an experience that taught him how much patients need to feel seen, heard, and respected. That lesson still drives him today.
Dr. Smith’s core passion is preventing illness and reversing chronic disease. He believes medicine is most powerful when it’s proactive, not reactive, and helps patients build stronger, healthier lives through early intervention, thoughtful planning, and long-term partnership.
When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Smith enjoys outdoor adventures, lifting, and training in martial arts. He values time with his wife and kids, and believes that true health is rooted in strength, purpose, and connection.
