War Memorial Hospital Earns Accreditation from The Joint Commission

Berkeley Springs, WV, January 30, 2018 – Valley Health War Memorial Hospital has earned accreditation from The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest healthcare standards setting and accrediting organization. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation reflects War Memorial Hospital’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

All of Valley Health’s six hospitals are now Joint Commission accredited and complete unannounced surveys every three years to maintain this status.

“I am very proud of the War Memorial and Valley Health staff who engaged in the hospital’s first accreditation survey process,” said Tom S. Kluge, FACHE, President, Valley Health West Region Hospitals. “We are pleased with our superior results and the positive feedback from the surveyors, which substantiate the quality of care we provide.”

Also included in the survey were the hospital’s affiliate sites: Valley Health War Memorial Hospital Family Medicine | Hancock, Valley Health War Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine and War Memorial Hospital Outpatient Rehab and Wellness.

During its onsite review in December, Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital standards in several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, and medication management. Surveyors also made observations and conducted interviews.

“Joint Commission accreditation provides hospitals with the processes needed to improve in a variety of areas from the enhancement of staff education to the improvement of daily business operations,” said Mark G. Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Division of Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. “In addition, our accreditation helps hospitals enhance their risk management and risk reduction strategies. We commend War Memorial Hospital for its efforts to become a quality improvement organization.”
