Supporting the Next Generation of Caregivers
Valley Health is investing in the future of healthcare by strengthening pathways that attract, develop, and retain physicians, nurses, and caregivers across the region. Guided by our strategic plan, these workforce initiatives are designed to ensure stable, high-quality care for the communities Valley Health serves.
Scholarships and Education Partnerships
Valley Health has expanded RN scholarship programs with BSN tracks and deepened partnerships with local colleges and universities. These collaborations extend beyond nursing to include respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology, creating clear pipelines from education to clinical practice.
Training and Apprenticeships
To grow talent internally, Valley Health has expanded its
Nurse Aide Training Program
and developed specialized apprenticeships, including a phlebotomy program in partnership with Laurel Ridge Community College. Internal training programs for
radiologic technologists
and
cardiovascular sonographers
further support career advancement and workforce sustainability.
High School and Community Engagement
Valley Health has strengthened CNA co-op programs with regional high schools, connecting students early to healthcare careers and sparking interest in nursing and technical roles.
Retention and Career Advancement
Strategic goals prioritize caregiver engagement, nurse retention, and internal career mobility, reinforcing Valley Health’s commitment to being an employer of choice and supporting long-term workforce stability.
Expanding Critical Roles
As demand for nurses grows faster than the national average—and demand for therapists and technicians continues to rise—Valley Health is focusing investments in surgical services, imaging, respiratory therapy, and emergency medical roles to meet evolving community needs.
Investing in the Future: Nurses of Tomorrow Scholarship
Beyond federal workforce programs, Valley Health launched the Nurses of Tomorrow Scholarship in August 2025 to support the next generation of nursing professionals. The scholarship provides up to $25,000 per recipient—$20,000 during the baccalaureate nursing program and an additional $5,000 in the final year.
More than financial assistance, the program offers mentorship, clinical training, and career development, ensuring students are supported throughout their education and into professional practice.
Physician Education and Residency Programs
Valley Health is also strengthening the region’s physician workforce through graduate medical education initiatives, including the new
Internal Medicine Residency Program
launching its first class in 2026 and the longstanding
Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency
. By training physicians locally, Valley Health is helping build a sustainable pipeline of providers committed to serving the Shenandoah Valley for years to come.
