Family Connections: Cristy, Rachel, Emma & Madison's Story

Let's meet Cristy, her sister-in-law Rachel, and Rachel's two daughters, Emma and Madison. Cristy is an Environmental Services Manager at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital; Rachel is a Cardiographic Technician at Winchester Medical Center(WMC) Cardiac and Vascular Diagnostic Center; Emma is a medical assistant; and Madison is a barista at the WMC Starbucks.

Why did you choose Valley Health?

Cristy: My dad passed away at WMC on Christmas day in the ED and everyone we came in contact with that day was wonderful. A few months later I found myself looking for somewhere to work that had great benefits but also somewhere where I felt I was making a difference, and my mom said what about the hospital, so I applied and went out of my comfort zone and it was absolutely the best decision I could have made. Ten years later I would still do it all over again.

Rachel: I chose Valley Health because I grew up here in Winchester and wanted to serve my community and also be close to home with my family.

Madison: Because my mom worked here and told me about the opening.

Emma: I chose Valley Health because it's the organization that I have grown up going to.

What do you like about working at Valley Health?

Cristy: It's something different every day, but every day I am touching the lives of our patients as well as the staff that I get the privilege of leading.

Rachel: I like the family connection feel here with my coworkers not only here in my department but also throughout the hospital.

Madison: I know a lot of people working here everywhere I turn. I know someone whether it’s my mom or sister or a former coworker.

Emma: I like Valley Health because it is a local small-town organization.

What do you like about working with family?

Cristy: I like that we can all attend the different events that Valley Health has throughout the year together, and that even though we all work in different units that we are all still part of one big team.

Rachel: It's nice to get to see them when you're at work, whether it's having lunch with them or seeing them at Starbucks.

Madison: I like that I get to see my mom and sister at work and at home.

Emma: I like working with my family because it is nice knowing someone within the organization on a deeper level. I also enjoy grabbing lunch with them on occasion.
