Michael Poss, MD
- Primary Specialty: Pain Management (Board Certified)
About
Dr. Poss has been a leading pain practitioner in the Winchester area since 2005. He has over 20 years of experience in treating complex pain. As a past President of the Virginia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, he is listed as one of the "150 Pain Management Physicians to Know" by Becker's ASC Review.
Dr. Poss earned a U.S Navy medical school scholarship and began his career as a United States Navy Medical Officer. He earned the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation medal among other meritorious service awards while serving as an Officer in the 2nd U.S. Marine Aircraft Wing. He continues to volunteer with the Virginia Medical Reserve Corp.
In 2018, Dr. Poss introduced regenerative medicine modalities to manage painful spinal and musculoskeletal conditions. Regenerative medicine uses a patient’s own tissue to stimulate the body’s own repair mechanisms. Instead of merely masking symptoms, regenerative medicine treatments aim at healing the underlying pathology that is causing pain and disability. This is an evolving area of medicine requiring extensive training. Dr. Poss finds that the improvements in quality of life and function using this technology, have been the most extraordinary and rewarding developments in his career.
Dr. Poss is a speaker and clinical advisor for medical device manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies and has several peer reviewed journal publications. He is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) and a Diplomate of the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians (ABIPP).
