Practice Management

Has anyone in medical school taught you how to code and bill? Do you know anything about personal and professional finance? Were you taught investment strategies? Do you know how to run an office and be successful? These are skills most medical students and doctors in training are never taught. Suddenly you graduate from residency and are thrown out into the world expected to generate income and know how to successfully run a business. The Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency Program offers a unique practice management experience not offered by most residencies in the United States.

As an intern, you will spend thirty minutes a week learning how to navigate the EMR system, learning how to code and bill, and how to use modifiers to capture all of the charges you have earned. Once you are comfortable with those lessons, we move into how to get out of debt, how to build wealth, and how to protect your family and assets from loss.

In the second year of residency, you will either learn how to design a practice from scratch or work on a project for the office. You will learn how to read business reports, hire and fire staff, write office procedures, how to best protect yourself from lawsuits and, finally, how to look for a job after graduation and negotiate the best contract that you can.

We have helped multiple past graduates start and maintain successful practices.

If these skills sound important and exciting to you, we are your program!
