Nurse Externship Program

Summer Nurse Externship Program: Accepting applications from January 1 - 31, 2023, for temporary 10-week full-time paid employment from May 31, 2023 - August 13, 2023.

Winter Nurse Externship Program: Accepting applications from October 2, 2023 through November 29, 2023 for temporary 6-week full-time paid employment December 18, 2023 - January 27, 2024.

Program Overview

Nurse externs under the supervision of Registered Nurse (RN) preceptors gain clinical experience to strengthen and reinforce newly acquired knowledge and skills
Opportunities provide exploration in home health, critical care, and perioperative nursing along with medical/surgical areas of interest
Experiential learning opportunities assist with a smooth transition from student to registered nurse
Nurse Extern works under the direct supervision of a RN. This experiential learning opportunity will ultimately assist in a smooth transition from Student to Registered Nurse.
Extern Enrichment opportunities planned around the extern’s desired topics of interest

Eligibility and Requirements

Nursing student enrolled in a nationally accredited program in good standing
Successfully complete the Foundations of Nursing, first year of nursing curriculum prior to hire
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 minimum (must provide current unofficial transcript as part of application process)
Strong interest in working at VHS after graduation
Successfully complete all relevant health and background checks as requested
Provide two recommendations from clinical faculty talentacquisition@valleyhealthlink.com.
