Osteopathic Residency (ACGME Osteopathic Recognition)
The Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency is an unopposed, ACGME Osteopathic Recognized, Family Practice residency that operates in the Shenandoah Valley Region of Virginia. With the close agreement between Osteopathic Philosophy and Practice (OPP) and the Family Practice Philosophy, our osteopathic and allopathic residents are educated in parallel in almost the entire curriculum.
In the Osteopathic Graduate Medical Education (OGME) year one, additional curricular elements include monthly OPP lectures with focused manipulation skill training. The first year curriculum includes both the allopathic and osteopathic residents with a goal of adding hospital manipulation to their existing knowledge base. In OGME years 2 and 3, bi-weekly osteopathic hospital rounds are used to focus and build on the use of manipulation skills in the hospital.
Office based osteopathic precepting is available for advancing individual skill sets with manipulation.
Jessica Morris, DO - Osteopathic Curriculum Director
Dr. Morris is a family medicine physician and serves as the Osteopathic Associate Program Director for the Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency. Having grown up as a Navy brat, she experienced life in many places, but the Shenandoah Valley has been home for over 15 years and is where she has chosen to build both her career and life.
Dr. Morris earned her medical degree from Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where her passion for osteopathic principles and hands-on patient care led her to be selected as an Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Teaching Fellow. She dedicated an additional year to refining her skills and teaching fellow medical students, an experience that continues to shape her approach to patient care and resident education.
She went on to complete residency within the Shenandoah Valley Family Practice Residency Program, where she served as Chief Resident. Her leadership style is grounded in approachability, mentorship, and a genuine investment in the growth of residents. As Associate Program Director, she is particularly passionate about integrating osteopathic philosophy into everyday clinical practice and fostering a supportive, collaborative learning environment.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Morris values time spent with her husband, daughter, and loved ones. She enjoys baking—especially her growing obsession with sourdough—staying active with Peloton cycling, strength training, and yoga, and taking in the natural beauty of the outdoors through hiking. She also has a deep love for the beach, which remains one of her favorite places to relax and recharge.
