Family Health and Fitness Day: Steps for Keeping Loved Ones Well

Family Health and Fitness Day: Steps for Keeping Loved Ones Well

It’s time to get up, get moving, and focus on well-being with your family! June 12 is Family Health & Fitness Day.

Recognized by the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), Family Health & Fitness Day is celebrated the second Saturday in June each year. This special day promotes the importance of keeping communities healthy.

One of the best ways you can keep your family healthy is by having a primary care provider. By definition, primary care, also known as family medicine, is the day-to-day care given by a health care provider. A primary care provider is typically the first contact and principal point of continuing care for patients, coordinating other specialty care that you may need.

Valley Health has over 30 offices in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia providing family and internal medicine primary care. While urgent care is great for an immediate need, such as minor injuries or illnesses, a relationship with a primary care provider (PCP) can keep you and your family’s overall health on track. Our providers also accept same-day appointments.

Your PCP can provide:

  • Annual physicals
  • Well-child visits
  • Prescription refills
  • Disease prevention
  • Health maintenance
  • Health counseling and education
  • Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses

While telemedicine is an option, our providers recommend face-to-face visits in most cases to ensure the highest quality of care. In-person appointments are readily available across our primary care locations.
