Volunteers: Making a Difference
The Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary was established in 1951, initially
as a fundraising endeavor focused on helping the Shenandoah County Memorial
Hospital. Today, more than 60 volunteers donate their time and talents
in nearly every area of the hospital, supporting staff and assisting patients
and their families. Volunteers also raise funds for the hospital by operating
a gift shop, holding a bazaar, book sales, jewelry sales and the annual
Tree of Love campaign, as well as many other fundraising events throughout the year.
SMH is also pleased to offer a VolunTeens program where young people in
our community can learn new skills, build confidence, make an impact in
our patients' lives and discover the many career opportunities that
exist in health care.
2019 VolunTeen Program
Summer break is just around the corner, and teens between the ages of 14
and 17 who are looking for a rewarding experience should consider joining
our VolunTeen Program. Our VolunTeens serve in a variety of settings,
including patient registration areas and waiting rooms. VolunTeens assist
with a variety of tasks, including wayfinding, patient transports, deliveries
and office work. Palwasha Ayyub of Woodstock has volunteered for two summers
enjoy interacting with both patients and staff. "Every day is something
new. You get to help people in so many ways and really make a positive
impact on your community."
VolunTeens receive a free meal on days they are volunteering, and teens
who complete a minimum of 100 hours or participate in at least two seasons
are eligible to apply for college scholarships which are funded through
the SMH Auxiliary.
Deadline for applying is May 6. Click on the links below for more information

Tree of Love
Each year, the SMH Auxiliary helps Woodstock and Sheandoah County usher
in the holiday season with its annual Tree of Love fundraising campaign.
By making a donation of $10 or more to the Tree of Love campaign, you can
honor or memorialize loved ones and friends with a symbolic light on the
trees that will be on display inside the hospital's south entrance.
Donation envelopes are available at both of the hospital's patient
information desks, the Auxiliary Gift Shop, and Administration.
Proceeds from the Tree of Love benefit Ruth's Closet, which provides
assistance with transportation, medication and other medical equipment;
and the hospital's Comfort Cart, which provides special items to seriously
ill patients and their families.
The community is invited to attend the tree lighting ceremony on Sunday,
December 2, 2018, at 7 p.m., in the hospital's south lobby. Light
refreshments and holiday entertainment will round out the celebration.
