Volunteers: Making a Difference

The Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary was established in 1951, initially as a fundraising endeavor focused on helping the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Today, more than 60 volunteers donate their time and talents in nearly every area of the hospital, supporting staff and assisting patients and their families. Volunteers also raise funds for the hospital by operating a gift shop, holding a bazaar, book sales, jewelry sales and the annual Tree of Love campaign, as well as many other fundraising events throughout the year.

SMH Auxiliary Projects

Tree of Love

Each year, the SMH Auxiliary helps Woodstock and Shenandoah County usher in the holiday season with its annual Tree of Love fundraising campaign.

By making a donation of $10 or more to the Tree of Love campaign, you can honor or memorialize loved ones and friends with a symbolic light on the trees that will be on display inside the hospital's south entrance. Donation envelopes are available at both of the hospital's patient information desks, the Auxiliary Gift Shop, and Administration.

Proceeds from the Tree of Love benefit Ruth's Closet, which provides assistance with transportation, medication and other medical equipment; and the hospital's Comfort Cart, which provides special items to seriously ill patients and their families.

The community is invited to attend the tree lighting ceremony on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at 7 p.m., in the hospital's south lobby. Light refreshments and holiday entertainment will round out the celebration.
