Employment with Valley Health System makes you eligible to use our Employee Child Care Center. We are located on the Amherst Street Winchester Medical Center campus. The staff of our Child Care Center makes it a priority to help your child feel secure and happy, as well as stimulated, in our well-organized and challenging environment. You can concentrate on job responsibilities knowing that your child is close by, safe, and having fun.
Below are a few facts about our Child Care Center. For more information, you can contact Trena Fisher, Director of the Center, at (540) 536-8815, or Sally Tomblin, Associate Director of the Center, at (540) 536-8818. Every effort is made to accommodate the needs of each employee. However, the Center has certain capacity and teacher-to-child ratio limits. There may be a waiting list for some age levels. All children are able to begin attending our Child Care Center as soon as space becomes available in an age-appropriate classroom.
Hours of Operation:
Seven days a week, 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Ages Accepted:
6 weeks through 12 years old
Ratios Maintained:
Infants / Toddlers (4:1)
2 year-olds (8:1)
3 year-olds to 5 year-olds (10:1)
School-age children (15:1)
Tuition Fees:
$33 per day (Infant / Toddlers)
$28 per day (2 year-olds)
$26 per day (Preschoolers)
$22 per full day (School Age)
$17 per day (Kindergarten before and after)
$ 5 per hour (Part time rate for attendance
less than 4 hours per day, or
hourly rate beyond 10 hours of
care on any given day)
Daily rates are $2.00 more per day for each age level on Saturdays and Sundays.
Evening care beyond 6:00 p.m. is an additional $5.00/hour for any portion of each hour.
($5.00 late fee for every 15 minutes after closing)
** Tuition fees provide for the care of your child, supplies, breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Our program is

Daily Program: The daily program at our Child Care Center consists of age-appropriate activities led by trained staff members following a specified curriculum. Each day will include a variety of activities for the growth and well-being of your whole child. Planned experiences will encourage the development of motor, social, language, quantitative, music, sensory, and arts and crafts skills. All children are encouraged to participate in teacher and self-initiated activities. The daily schedule will satisfy your child’s basic needs for nourishment and rest, as well as provide a variety of quiet and more active experiences.

6:00 – 8:15 Various free play activities, cereal (6:00 – 7:00)
8:15 – 8:30 Clean-up, bathroom break, handwashing
8:30 – 8:45 “Snackfast”
9:00 – 10:00 Teacher-initiated group time
Stories, puzzles, art
10:00 – 11:00 Outside time
(If weather is bad…music & movement,
other free choice activities)
11:00 – 11:30 Handwashing, lunch
11:45 – 12:15 Quiet activities, TV time, prepare for rest
12:30 – 2:30 Rest
Teacher lunch breaks
2:30 – 3:00 Bathroom
Afternoon snack
3:00 – 4:00 Outside time
4:00 – 5:30 Free choice time in room
More stories, games
5:30 – 6:00 Clean up time
Remaining children join together in infant room
6:15 Dinner for evening care children (provided by the parents)
followed by free play, homework, stories, etc. until pick up
** Infants follow individualized schedules with developmental experiences during waking hours.
**School-age children follow the regular schedule when they are at the Center all day. They will rest some, but other options may be offered at naptime when they are present for the whole day. Doing homework after school is encouraged.
