Shenandoah Memorial Hospital
A 25-bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located in Woodstock, VA
ASU/PACU-The Ambulatory Surgery Unit cares for pre- and post-op surgical patients, Endoscopy patients and Pain Clinic patients. Staff work in both the ASU and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, day shift, with call rotation for after-hours, weekends and holidays.
Emergency Department-The ED is a 13 bed unit, with an average daily census of 45 patients. The staff work 12 hour shifts, with rotating weekend and holidays. The Emergency Department employs RNs and ED Technicians.
Family Birthing Center- Utilizing an all RN staff, the staff work 12 hour shifts, and rotate between Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Nursery. The staff work rotating weekend and holidays, with occasional call hours.
ICU- a 6 bed unit caring for intensive care and cardiac care patients. The average daily census of the unit is 2 patients. Staff work mainly 12 hour shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays.
Medical/Surgical- an 18 bed unit under CAH status. The average daily census is 15. The scope of patients is medical and surgical, from pediatric to geriatric. The majority of the staff work 12 hour shifts, with rotating weekends and holidays, and occasional call hours.
Operating Room-The OR employs RNs, LPNs, CSTs and OR Technicians. The staff work a day shift schedule, with rotating call shifts for evening/nights, weekends and holidays. OR responsibilities also include Endoscopy.
Warren Memorial Hospital
A 196-bed Planetree community hospital and long term care facility located in Front Royal, VA
Emergency Department - The ED is a 14-bed unit. The nurses work various overlapping shifts including 7am – 7pm, 7pm – 7am, 3pm – 1am and 7pm – 3am.
ICU - an 8-bed unit with an average daily census between 2-3. All shifts are 12 hours, 7am -7pm and 7pm -7am.
Long Term Care – Lynn Care Center is a 120-bed long term care facility at WMH. Nurses work mainly 12 hour shifts; however 8 hour shifts may be available.
Med/Surg/Telemetry - a 30-bed unit with an average daily census of 17. Most staff work 12 hour shifts, 7am -7pm and 7pm-7am.
Surgical Services operates from 7:00am to 3:30pm and varied hours in Same Day surgery. All RNs work mandatory call for the OR staff.
Women's Care Center is an 8-bed unit with 4 LDRP beds, 4 GYN beds and 1 triage room. The rooms are all private. The staff works 3- 12 hour shifts with call as needed.
Winchester Medical Center
A 411-bed regional referral hospital and level II trauma center located in Winchester, VA
Behavioral Health Services – Behavioral Health services is a 20-bed adult unit and a 6-bed geriatric unit focusing on the emotional, psychosocial, and physical well being of patients. This unit maintains an average daily census of around 70%. Nursing staff work 8 and 12 hour shifts.
Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care –The CVSICU is a 10-bed critical care unit. The average daily census is 7 to 9 patients. The majority of the nursing staff work 12 hour shifts, rotating weekend and holidays.
Cath Lab – The Cath Lab operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All nurses work 10 hour rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
Cath Lab Holding – The Cath Lab Holding Unit is open 7:30am to 11pm. Nurses working in Cath Lab Holding work 10 hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays.
Coronary Care Unit - The CCU is a 10-bed critical care unit. The average daily census is 8 to 9 patients. The majority of the nursing staff work 12 hour shifts, rotating weekend and holidays.
Emergency Department – The Level II Trauma Center is a 45-bed department that treats over 70,000 patients each year. The ED gives nurses options of 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts. The staff shares weekend shifts and rotates every-other holiday.
Float Pool - The Float Pool is organized to supplement various staffing demands 24/7. The staff consists of RN, LPN, CNA, and secretarial support. A minimum of 3 years acute care experience is strongly preferred. Positions are full time with full benefits and receive a 10% differential. Staff controlled scheduling is flexible with the majority of staff working 12 hour shifts.
GI/Endocrine/General Medicine – This 40-bed acute care medical/surgical unit caring for the adult patient. The staff works a mix of 8 and 12 hour shifts with every other weekend off.
Home Health – Home health nurses provide health care services to people in their own homes. Nurses work 8 hour shifts, rotating weekends, holidays and call shifts.
Labor and Delivery Unit- This unit is a 6-bed labor/delivery/recovery unit with two operating rooms and three post-anesthesia rooms. Included in the Labor and Delivery unit are a four bed Ante-Partum Unit and a 2-room outpatient antenatal testing area. The Labor and Delivery Unit have on staff a board-certified Perinatologist for high-risk deliveries. The Labor and Delivery unit has over 2000 deliveries/yr. The L&D work 12-hour shifts and every third weekend.
Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit – The Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit is a busy 10-bed unit that maintains an occupancy rate of 90 – 100%. The nurse patient ratio is generally 1:2 however certain conditions may warrant one on one nursing. Most staff members work a 36-hour week, working three 12 hour shifts a week, though 40 hour work-weeks with 8 and 12 hour shifts may be available. Trauma Care, Neurosurgical Care with ICP monitoring and CRRT are specialized competencies.
Medical Telemetry - This is a 40-bed telemetry unit with an average patient census of 92%. Staff typically work 12 hour shifts general duty, with every other weekend and holiday rotations.
Mother/Baby Unit- Mother/Baby is an 18-bed unit with a fully staffed Newborn Nursery. The Mother/Baby Unit does couplet care. The Mother/Baby staff attends all deliveries accompanied by a Respiratory Therapist. A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner joins the delivery team for high-risk deliveries. The Mother/Baby Staff work 12-hour shifts and every third weekend.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit- The NICU at Winchester Medical Center is a 12-bed level III unit and a 4-bed step-down unit for a total of 16 beds. The unit is comprised of an all RN staff specially educated to care for moderately to critically ill neonates. Admission criteria to the NICU includes 26 weeks gestation and greater. The NICU has two board-certified Neonatologist and six Neonatal Nurse Practitioners with one NNP in-house 24/7. Services of the unit include a neonatal transport team, nitric oxide therapy and oscillator ventilation. The nursing staff works 12-hour shifts and every third weekend.
Neuroscience - The Neuroscience unit is an 18-bed unit that cares for patients with acute neurological disease processes and neurosurgical procedures. Telemetry monitoring is available in 8 beds, with 2 beds also available for the neurological or neurosurgical step-down patient. Staff works a mixture of 8 and 12 hour shifts.
Oncology Unit – The Oncology unit is a 15 bed unit. The majority of the staff work 8 hour shifts. Advanced Oncology Nursing Practice is supported by 2 Nurse Practitioners. In addition to the traditional Medical/Surgical Oncology patient the unit also cares for Cesium Implants, I-131 Thyroid treatment and Prostate Seed Implant patients.
Orthopedic Unit - This is a 39 bed unit. As a member of this team, you will be working closely with a multidisciplinary team of orthopedic nurses, physical therapists, and physicians.
Pediatrics- Pediatrics is a 19-bed unit whose population is comprised of primarily medical, but some surgical patients, 18 yrs and younger. The unit has a child-life specialist on the unit Mon-Fri. The all RN staff work 12-hour shifts and every third weekend.
Pulmonary Special Care Unit - The Pulmonary Special Care Unit is a 6-bed unit that treats patients with all types of pulmonary and respiratory diseases. It is equipped with individualized hardwire EKG monitors and ventilator capacity that includes intensive care and critical analysis, continuous arterial catheterization and capnographic ventilatory monitoring. The staff works 12-hour shifts with an average daily census of 90-100%.
Pulmonary Unit - The Pulmonary unit is a 34-bed unit, including 16 telemetry beds, specializing in the care of patients with acute and chronic pulmonary diseases. Staff works 8 hour shifts that may be adjusted based on census and acuity. The average daily census is 90-100%.
Renal- The Renal Unit is a 13 bed telemetry unit specializing in the care of Kidney diseases. Hemodilaysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Continuous Cycler dialysis are specialized competencies. Most staff work 12 hour shifts and Flexible scheduling is offered.
4B Surgical: The 4B surgical unit is a 20-bed, private room unit. As a member of this team, you will be working closely with a multidisciplinary team including surgical nursing staff and physicians, specializing in the care of patients recovering from surgical procedures.
4D Surgical/Bariatrics The 4D surgical/Bariatric unit is a 12-bed, private room unit. As a member of this team, you will be working closely with a multidisciplinary team including surgical nursing staff, physical therapists, nutritionists, and physicians, specializing in the care of patients recovering from surgical procedures and weight loss (Bariatric) surgery
Surgical Services Department – This unit provides 15 suites for the use of patients requiring OR services. AM Admissions offers 20 private rooms and 8 anesthesia prep-beds, including 2 isolation beds, for all patients requiring surgical intervention to complete pre-operative preparation and teaching. The nursing team provides continuous, around-the-clock coverage for the Surgical Services Department.
Surgical Telemetry – This is a 40-bed telemetry unit with an average patient census of 85%. Staff work typically work 12 hour shifts general duty, with every other weekend and holiday rotations.
Winchester Rehabilitation Center - The Winchester Rehabilitation Center is an acute care rehabilitation facility comprised of 30 beds with an average daily census of 18 patients. The staff works 8 hour rotating shifts and 12 hour shifts.
