Chester At Winchester Medical Center, we’re utilizing the latest technology to treat patients with complex conditions requiring advanced surgical techniques. We are the first hospital in our region to use the latest generation surgical robot, the da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical System, to provide minimally invasive cancer treatment for our patients.

Led by our expert team of robotics-trained surgeons representing several surgical specialties, our Robotic Surgery program enables us to provide advanced, robot-assisted surgery to patients right here in the Shenandoah Valley.

Thoracic Surgery

Lung Cancer

  • Lobectomy – For patients with non-small cell lung cancer in the early stages of the disease, the removal of one of the five lobes in the lungs may be the recommended course of treatment. Robotic-assisted lobectomy allows the thoracic surgeon to remove a portion of the lung with a high degree of precision and control while visualizing the procedure through a magnified 3D HD vision system. This advanced approach to lung cancer treatment typically results in less blood loss, a shorter hospital stay and a quicker recovery when compared to the traditional open approach to lobectomy.
