Within a few hours after childbirth, mom and baby are moved to our Mother/Baby unit, also located on the second floor. This is a secure area with restricted access. Each of our 26 rooms is private with sleeping accommodations for spouse or significant other. Each room has cable television and high-speed wireless Internet.
Located within the Mother/Baby unit is the Newborn Nursery. Here, full-term babies receive the medical attention they need during their first few days, including their first physical, vaccinations and circumcisions for the boys if parents choose.
We encourage you to keep your baby in your room. Winchester Medical Center wants to give your family the opportunity to begin bonding with your baby as soon as possible. The Newborn Nursery is available if you need some extra rest. Your nurse will assist you with feeding or answer any questions you have regarding the care of your baby. Lactation consultants are available to help you with breastfeeding should you decide to breastfeed.
