Important Aspect of Quality of Life
The activities program at Lynn Care Center is designed to
enhance self-worth and attain the highest practical level
of physical, mental and psychosocial well-being. Activities
and the related social interactions have been shown to increase
life span.
Lynn
Care Center's entire staff is involved with activities,
no matter what their specific job duties. The activities
program is an important aspect of the resident's quality
of life, encompassing many more hours of the day than nursing
and physical. In the Skilled Nursing Unit, we offer leisure
activities that support therapy goals and enable patients
to return to hobbies and interests they enjoy.
Residents
can enjoy variety and social interaction in the shared living
spaces outside of their rooms. They may be found in the
activities area playing balloon ball, which, besides being
fun, offers benefits for hand-eye coordination and range
of motion. Some residents might be in the kitchen baking
treats for everyone to enjoy, sharing cooking stories and
family memories along with the delicious goodies. From card
games and bingo to Lynn Care's own versions of horse racing,
Trivial Pursuit® or Jeopardy!®, there are plenty
of opportunities for fun, and enjoyment. Various outings
are also planned each month, including popular van rides
that usually have no specific destinations but always spark
memories and stories of the local area.

Care
from the Community
Community volunteers are invaluable, interacting with and
entertaining the residents at all times of the day and evening.
Several local churches offer ministry through music and
song. Students from local schools share their youthful excitement
and enthusiasm, entertaining with songs, poems and plays.
Preschoolers and members of local scout troops have "adopted
a grandparent" and enjoy being the center of attention
of those residents. Music therapists from Shenandoah University
offer residents the opportunity to reminisce through the
songs and rhythms of an earlier era. A beauty consultant
visits to offer female residents her expertise for facials,
manicures and skin care. Male residents have a special coffee
hour and a men-only lunch.
Lynn
Care residents participate in special events and activities
including holiday programs, special dinners with a roaming
musician, picnics, shopping trips, luaus, auctions, and
apple butter making.
