“I am impressed by Valley Health's commitment to Critical Access Hospitals (CAH). Most people do not realize how important small hospitals are. Community-based care is better for patients and nurses in many circumstances. Working in a CAH, we have a different pace and focus than a medical center. I can breathe and think here. My manager is so supportive of me and our unit. And our patients love and appreciate us.”

I have been a nurse for 26 years, working at War Memorial Hospital for the last year and a half in Acute Care. We have a mix of med/surg patients and patients who need short-term rehab or have another skilled nursing need to transition back to the community, and we provide end-of-life care.

Our patients at War are the best! I love taking care of patients from the community in which I live. The nurses and their support staff at War are a very experienced and skilled group of nursing professionals. Our staffing is safe, and we work together to fill needs and ensure the unit is covered.

I am impressed by Valley Health's commitment to critical access hospitals. Most people have yet to learn how vital small hospitals are to our healthcare system. Small, community-based care is better for patients and nurses in many circumstances. We have a different pace and focus than a larger medical center. I can breathe and think here. I don't get interrupted during patient care or my day off for unimportant matters. My manager is so supportive of me and our unit. Our patients love us and appreciate us.

As a kid, I loved being around older adults. My grandmothers were an important influence, and my parents encouraged me to do something of service. I also loved science, psychology, and meeting new people, so nursing was a perfect fit for me!
