Cardiology
Winchester Medical Center’s Division of Cardiology offers a full range of cutting edge treatment options that include both medical and interventional techniques.
Medical cardiologists will determine what diagnostic procedures you need and whether the results of these evaluations indicate that you need direct intervention or may safely embark on a course of drug therapy, lifestyle changes, or other conservative steps alone. Depending on the diagnosis, a medical cardiologist may then continue to manage or help manage your care, monitoring your condition, your drug regimen, and any need for further treatment.
Sometimes medical therapy isn’t enough and interventions become necessary. Interventional cardiologists use minimally invasive methods to clear blockages in the coronary arteries, namely angioplasty and stenting, to treat peripheral arterial disease without opening the chest for surgery. These types of procedures don’t take place in an operating room. Interventional cardiologists perform minimally invasive techniques in the catheterization lab, or cath lab as it is more commonly known.
Winchester Medical Center offers interventional treatment options including:
carotid endarterectomy / carotid angioplasty with stenting
coronary artery angioplasty
treatment of arrhythmias
renal and peripheral vascular angioplasty
balloon
valvuloplasty
for mitral and aortic heart valve disease
endovascular treatment of
atherosclerosis
minimally invasive treatments for
atrial septal defects
