General Financial Assistance and Charity Assistance
Helping Those In Need

Valley Health encourages patients to apply for financial assistance if they believe they are unable to pay all or part of their healthcare bill for medically necessary services. Keep in mind that not all Valley Health services offer the same assistance programs and not all patients are eligible for those programs. Please contact the appropriate Customer Service telephone numbers listed to discuss your options.

Valley Health facilities participate in several financial assistance programs through local, state and federal government programs, including Virginia Medicaid and West Virginia Medicaid programs. To help patients and families work through the eligibility requirements for these programs we have staff to assist.

We recognize that not all uninsursed or underinsured patients meet the eligibility requirements of the available state or federal programs.

Valley Health also offers financial assistance to eligible individuals and families, including:
  • No-interest monthly payment arrangements
  • Charity Assistance:
    • Free care is available for eligible patients/families at or below 200% of the Federal Government’s Poverty Guidelines as described at www.aspe.hhs.gov/poverty
    • A sliding scale is used to lower bills for eligible patients/families up to 300% of the Federal Government’s Poverty Guidelines.
    • Prompt Payment discounts of 5% or 10%

Payment Arrangements
Payment arrangements can be made for larger bills that can not be paid off all at once.

The first step is to contact us to request a payment arrangement, including no-interest monthly payment plans. We will then review your account for the different options that we offer. In many cases, you will be asked to fill out a Financial Information Sheet (FIS). We can provide one, or you can print one out by clicking here. Please fill out the form and return it in a timely manner so we can review your circumstances. This will help us make a more informed determination/suggestion of your options for resolving your bill.

Charity Assistance
Charity Assistance is available for those patients who meet predefined criteria. The first step is to contact us to request a Financial Information Sheet (FIS) or go to our website to the link listed above. You must return your FIS timely so that we can review the individual or families’ information against the criteria. In most cases, additional documentation is required such as proof of income or a notarized letter of support. You must request this prior to your account being referred for collections.

All of your information will be kept confidential and only used to determine possible assistance programs to resolve your healthcare bills.
