Advanced Care for Patients with Sleep Conditions
Many people do not realize how a lack of sleep can affect their health.
The truth is, sleep disorders have a wide range of negative effects, including
social and emotional consequences, and even health issues. At Winchester
Medical Center, our sleep labs are designed to help our patients identify
sleep disorders and find relief. We’ve been able to provide treatment
for hundreds of patients throughout Virginia. We urge you to contact Winchester
Medical Sleep Center to find out more about how we can help you return
to a peaceful and healthy sleep pattern.
What causes bad sleep? These are examples of some of the conditions and
disorders that can adversely impact your sleep patterns.
Some sleep conditions we diagnose at Winchester Medical Sleep Center include:
Sleep apnea – Sleep apnea is a condition where the patient’s breathing
is consistently interrupted while sleeping. The breathing interruptions
occur for as little as 10 seconds and as long as 30 seconds. You may not
be aware you have sleep apnea; however, this condition can significantly
impact your sleep quality.
Narcolepsy – Narcolepsy is a nervous system condition that causes the patient
to fall asleep involuntarily at random times. This condition can be very
dangerous, particularly if the patient falls asleep while driving. There
are varying levels of severity.
Insomnia – Insomnia describes the condition where an individual has chronic
difficulty falling asleep and / or staying asleep. He / she may wake up
frequently in the night or very early in the morning, and fall asleep
at difficult times.
Restless leg syndrome – Restless leg syndrome is a condition that has been identified as
neurological. The patient feels disagreeable sensations in his / her legs
and as a result fidgets and moves without finding relief.
Thorough Testing Services for Sleep Disorders
There is still a good deal of misunderstanding and lack of education when
it comes to sleep disorders. Part of our goal at Winchester Medical Center
is to ensure that patients have access to the care they need; and that
we are providing education and support for our communities. We want our
communities to understand how they can take action to pursue healthier
sleep patterns. Our sleep lab facilities are state of the art. If you
need to conduct a sleep study, you can rely on our care. The technologists
at our facilities have their board certifications and can help you find
answers to your sleep issues and results that improve your quality of life.
Some of the sleep tests that we use at Winchester Medical Sleep Center include:
- Multiple sleep latency tests
- Multiple wakefulness tests
- Continuous positive airway pressure
After we have obtained a diagnosis using one or more of these tests, we
can help you find relief using one of our programs. Winchester Medical
Center Sleep Centers offers numerous sleep programs targeting patients
with sleep disorders such as those described above. Our programs include
a pediatric sleep program for kids as well as a safe driver program specifically
for commercial drivers facing sleep issues.
We encourage you to contact our hospital in Winchester to learn more about
our services and how we can help.
