Our History

Warren Memorial Hospital (WMH) has served the greater Warren County, Virginia area since opening in 1951 on North Shenandoah Avenue in Front Royal.

In 1993, WMH was the first to affiliate with the Winchester-based health system that the next year was renamed Valley Health. The hospital offered diagnostic, medical, and surgical services, skilled nursing care, outpatient rehabilitation and more, collaborating with the community on a variety of health and wellness events and initiatives.

In 2008, WMH opened an outpatient facility on Commerce Avenue that is currently home to outpatient rehabilitation services and provider offices. A second outpatient rehabilitation location opened in 2019 at Riverton Commons, where physical therapists offer a variety of specialty services. Valley Health also operates an Urgent Care and an Urgent Care Express location in Front Royal for after-hours care for minor illness and injury.

In 2021, Warren Memorial Hospital relocated to a new $100 million facility on a 28-acre developed campus with stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley and an award-winning, patient-centered environment for wellness and healing. The new hospital has 36 private inpatient rooms, 12 Critical Care Step-down rooms, and an 18-bed Emergency Department with dedicated imaging suite, adjoining 5-bed Clinical Decision Unit, and helipad for rapid Medevac transport.

The adjoining medical building puts 50 providers steps away from the hospital, and Valley Pharmacy is in the lobby for convenient pick-ups. Surgical Services includes three spacious operating suites, two endoscopy rooms, and a cardiac catheterization lab to expedite lifesaving heart care. In 2022, WMH was one of the first in the region to introduce robot-assisted total joint replacement, offering precision guidance, less bone loss, and faster healing. The Physical Therapy and Sports Performance department offers expertise to help athletes at all levels and ages get back in action.

The best is yet to come for Warren Memorial Hospital as it continues to develop to meet the community's changing needs.
