You can take some important steps to keep yourself healthy. Here are suggestions from the American Academy of Family Physicians:
Don't smoke or use any form of tobacco.
Eat a healthy diet.
Exercise regularly. Check with your health care provider before starting to exercise if you have been sedentary.
Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all.
Don't use illegal drugs.
Practice safe sex.
Use a seat belt when riding in any vehicle.
See your health care provider regularly for preventive care.
