Keeping pace with the healthcare needs in a growing and changing community
requires long range planning and vision. In 2003, Shenandoah Memorial
Hospital developed a Master Facility Plan that will bring on gradual advancement
and the replacement of existing facilities.
Essentially, over the next 10-15 years, new construction will replace most
departments at SMH. The plan seeks to streamline essential services and
greatly improve efficiency of operation. At the same time, the plan will
stay current with advancing healthcare opportunities and community needs.
The 2007 completion of the new Shenandoah Surgery Center was the first
major success of the Master Facility Plan. Over the next several years
additional construction will unfold, including the addition of a new Diagnostic
Medical Imaging Center. The construction of a new Emergency Department
is also included in the Master Facility Plan.
