For patients with disabilities or patients who are in need of consistent care, long-term care from Valley Health may be their best solution. At Valley Health, we are committed to the health and wellness of each of our patients and the well-being of our community. Our exceptional services allow patients to remain closer to home while receiving quality health care. This is especially helpful for the families of patients requiring long-term care.

In many cases, long-term care is not limited to medical care—such as skilled nursing, IV antibiotics, and therapy. Many patients also require assistance with their activities of daily living (ADLs) and / or instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs)

Examples of ADLs and IADLs include:

  • Bathing
  • Grooming
  • Dressing
  • Using the bathroom
  • Transportation
  • Housekeeping
  • Eating
  • Toilet care / assistance
  • Transferring from bed / chair
  • Medications
  • Pet care
  • Emergency alarm responses
  • Communications
  • Cleaning / housework
  • Financial management
  • Housework

What Is Long-Term Care?

Essentially, long term care combines different medical services in order to provide personalized care to people with disabilities or chronic conditions for a period of time usually consisting of six months or longer. Nursing homes are an example of long-term care; however, your local hospital may also have a long-term care facility.

In addition, a long-term facility may offer short-term care, such as nursing care, or a form of speech, physical, or occupational therapy.
