Valley Health System Names New CFO
Peter Gallagher has accepted the position of Senior Vice President (SVP) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Valley Health System effective June 2. He has been providing interim financial leadership to VHS since February.
Gallagher has over 30 years of experience in hospital and health system financial management. His areas of expertise include: revenue cycle, finance and accounting, IT, materials management, physician practice management, real estate, managed care contracting, and other related services. He spent a substantial part of his career at Bon Secours Virginia, which operates seven acute care hospitals, freestanding imaging centers, ambulatory surgery centers, a physician enterprise with over 300 physicians and other services in the Richmond and Tidewater area. Since leaving Bon Secours as SVP and CFO in late 2011, Gallagher has provided financial and related consulting services to hospitals and health systems. Other experience includes The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Coopers & Lybrand.

Gallagher received his Bachelor of Science at Miami University in Ohio, and an MBA from Xavier University in Cincinnati. He is a fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association and a licensed CPA in Virginia. In 2009, he received the “Mid-Career Award” from the Catholic Health Association for his leadership in Catholic health care. Gallagher and his wife, Betsy, have three adult children who live in Virginia.
