Wednesday, June 26, 2013 - Winchester Medical Center Recognized for Knee and Hip Replacement Program
Winchester Medical Center recently received national recognition for its joint replacement program, once again earning designation as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement® in quality by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia.
Blue Distinction is awarded to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise and a commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for patients of comprehensive inpatient joint replacement services, including total knee replacement and total hip replacement. Winchester Medical Center received its first Blue Distinction designation for knee and hip replacement in October 2009.
“Blue Distinction validates that we have met national quality-focused criteria that emphasize patient safety and outcomes,” notes Derrick Schultz, MBA, PT, OCS, Director for Orthopedic Services at Winchester Medical Center. “Since receiving our first designation in 2009, we’ve continued to further advance our efforts in safety, while providing the best possible care and outcomes for our patients. In particular, our focus on pre-surgical preparation, infection control, and education are producing extremely good results for our patients. Our processes and surgeons are on par with some of the best in the nation in joint replacement surgery.”
Eight board-certified orthopedic surgeons perform more than 700 joint replacement procedures at Winchester Medical Center each year.
