Valley Health System Welcomes New Executive
Grady W. “Skip” Philips, III, FACHE, has joined Valley Health System as a Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Winchester Medical Center, the system’s regional referral hospital.
Since 2010, Philips served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, Va. His experience includes both not-for-profit and for-profit health care.
A native of Georgia, Philips earned undergraduate degrees in chemistry and history from Emory University, and Master’s degrees in business administration and health care administration from Georgia State University. He held various administrative positions at Riverside Health System in the Tidewater area and was serving as Senior Vice President of Operations when he departed in 2006 to become President and CEO at Houston Healthcare in Georgia. Four years later Philips returned to Virginia as CEO of Memorial Hospital.
“We welcome Skip to our leadership team as we continue to confront the challenges and opportunities facing our regional health system,” said Mark H. Merrill, President and CEO of Valley Health System and President of Winchester Medical Center. “Skip has guided organizations during times of transition, ensuring that patient care is safe, high quality and accessible, while earning high marks for employee, physician and community engagement.”
Philips and his wife, Cathy, have three children, and look forward to becoming involved in Winchester community life.
