Tuesday, August 06, 2013 - Winchester Medical Center Named a HealthStrong Top 100 Hospital

iVantage Health Analytics® released its 2013 HealthStrong Hospital Study last week and Winchester Medical Center was named among the Top 100 Strongest U.S. Hospitals.

The 2013 Top 100 Hospitals list was assembled based on results of a nationwide hospital rating system developed by iVantage that evaluates hospitals from patient, market and financial perspectives.

“This recognition looks at metrics that mean so much to patients, like quality, safety and value,” said Christopher Rumpf, MD, Chief Quality and Medical Officer at Valley Health, the not-for-profit health system that includes Winchester Medical Center. “Many of the people who contribute to this success are never seen by the patient, but they influence our outcomes.”

“Market strength, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial performance are all critically important elements to the hospital’s success,” said Bob Amos, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the 445-bed hospital. “Financial strength makes it possible for Valley Health to attract and maintain an outstanding medical staff, state of the art equipment, and support the community through charitable offerings.”

Ratings are based on publicly available data sources, including Medicare claims data, Medicare Cost Reports, Hospital Compare reporting and others. The report, which is available at http://www.ivantagehealth.com/announcing-100-top-healthstrong-hospitals/, looks at 56 individual metrics and calculates rankings based on performance in comparison to all 4,400+ general acute care hospitals in the U.S. Aggregate scores across eight pillars are the basis for the single overall Health Strength Index rating.

8 Pillar Scores:
1. Quality
2. Outcomes
3. Patient Perspectives
4. Competitive Strength
5. Financial Stability
6. Competitive Intensity
7. Cost and Charge
8. Market Size and Growth

Winchester Medical Center’s recent recognitions include:
• Ranked #5 in Virginia and #1 in the Shenandoah Valley by U.S. News & World Report (2013)
• “A” for Patient Safety from The Leapfrog Group (2013)
