The Hampshire County Diabetes Coalition invites the community to a new
free event -- “A Date with Diabetes” – this Thursday,
March 17, from 6-9 p.m. at the South Branch Inn in Romney.
The evening will feature socializing and light hors d’oeuvres by
Gretta’s Kitchen and a robust panel discussion with experts offering
diabetes facts and disease management insights, followed by a Q&A.
“With diabetes so prevalent here we wanted to work together to host
a bigger event this year,” says Trina Cox, Director of Hampshire
Wellness & Fitness, and a member of the Hampshire County Diabetes
Coalition. “Our Coalition is the product of a good working relationship
between the hospital, community providers, the health department, the
diabetes support group, and our wellness & fitness center. We’ve
recently welcomed some new members with great energy and we decided to
give this evening program a try,” Trina explains.
The panel is expected to include a podiatrist, orthopedic surgeon, pharmacist,
diabetes nurse educator, and public health nurse…and possibly more.
“We’re hoping for a great turnout and an opportunity to share
useful, motivating information,” says Trina.
Advance registration is not necessary. For more information, call 304-822-7255.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, diabetes
is the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S. It lowers life expectancy
up to 15 years and increases the risk of heart disease by 2-4 times.
