Diabetes Management

Valley Health’s Diabetes Management Program (DMP) has locations in Front Royal, Luray, Winchester and Woodstock, Virginia. All programs are recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) which assures the highest standard of education for patients. We provide education for patients in a classroom setting or individually for:
  • type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • medical nutrition therapy
  • insulin pump initiation and support
  • gestational diabetes and pre-diabetes assessments, adjustments and management
  • classes on healthy eating and goal setting
Diabetes education can promote long-term benefits for chronic disease management and is seen as effective and economical in the ultimate prevention of long-term complications from diabetes. An individual with diabetes spends less than 1 percent of his or her time in contact with a health care system and on a daily basis must make critical decisions about diabetes.

According to the American Diabetes Association, patients who receive diabetes education can see the following benefits:
  • Improved clinical outcomes and quality of life
  • Reduced risk of co-morbidities
  • Varying methods of instruction to incorporate cultural and age-appropriate education
  • Maintained improvement in metabolic outcomes
  • Enhanced self-management through behavior goal setting
Key Points:
  • Valley Health’s Diabetes Management Program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association since 1993. ADA recognition is the gold standard for diabetes management.
  • Staff includes more than 10 Certified Diabetes Educators – those specially trained in the care, education and management of people with diabetes. Our educators may be nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, podiatrists, counselors or exercise physiologists.
