Valley Health is a not-for-profit organization serving the healthcare needs of people in and around an area known as the Top of Virginia, as well as parts of West Virginia and Maryland.
Valley Health was incorporated November 4, 1993 when Winchester Medical Center (WMC) and Warren Memorial Hospital (WMH), in Front Royal, partnered to serve the region. Headquartered in Winchester, Virginia, Valley Health now operates five hospitals: WMC, WMH, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital (SMH) in Woodstock, VA, and Hampshire Memorial Hospital (HMH) in Romney, WV. While not a system affiliate, War Memorial Hospital, in Berkeley Springs, WV, has been managed by Valley Health since 1990.
Valley Health has a combined 551 licensed inpatient beds and 150 long-term care beds. The system is supported by over 4,500 employees, and a medical staff of nearly 500.
Valley Health had 33,000 inpatient admissions in 2007 and more than 116,000 emergency room visits. A record 3,066 babies were delivered at Valley Health hospitals in 2007.
